Mario Kart

What’s the difference between the app and the childhood game?

An app called Mario Kart Tour was released September 25, 2019, students downloaded the app right away creating a Mario Kart Tour craze. Some people got the app due to the nostalgia of it. The first game of Mario Kart was released in 1992, it was the game for the 90s kids – until Mario Kart Wii was released in 2008. Spending summer after summer racing and racing until they earned first place. Others got the app due to how popular it was. People in the halls, at the lunch table, or at their desk in homeroom would be sliding their finger along their phone to avoid the banana.

“I kept on hearing how popular it was,” sophomore Lelya Reininger said. “So I just had to get it. It turned out to be really fun.” However, some people have noticed a difference in the games that others have not. In the 2008 Mario Kart Wii game, riders were able to off road to secret roads, use bananas to stop green and red shells from affecting them, and look behind them at the other riders. However, the app added more features that are beneficial. Nintendo added jump boosts, safety features (not falling to your death), and the ability to destroy obstacles.

“Although there are many differences between the 2008 game and the app,” Reininger said. “People are still enjoying the game, playing with their friends, comparing scores, and that’s all that matters.”
