As the lights shine on the field, the varsity Carmel football team gets ready to play the Libertyville Wildcats in a game they have all been anticipating since practices started.

“My favorite part of the season is probably going to be the long-awaited Carmel vs. Libertyville game,” sophomore Ryan Medina said. “There have been a lot of assumptions and rumors, and we can’t wait to go out in that field and destroy them.”

The team has been working hard to make big changes to their game play.

“Our offensive run, our running backs, and offensive line are looking extra solid this year,” Medina said.

He isn’t the only one who has seen these changes.

“On our offensive side of the ball, we’re really explosive and our run game is going to be really good,” senior Ben Berg said.

While the team has strengthened their skills on the field, their friendship off the field has grown even stronger.

“We’re really close as a team,” Berg said. “Outside of football practice, we get together and hang out. Everyone’s included in everything.”

Even newcomers to the varsity football team can feel their powerful connection.

“My favorite part about being on this team is how much we care about each other, especially the coaches and the chemistry we have as a team,” Medina said. “It gets to the point where it feels not only like a team, but a family.”

The team is ready to bring the Friday Night energy to the field and the anticipation to the people in the stands.

“I just love the feeling of Friday night lights,” Berg said. “It’s been my dream to play on Friday nights, so I love it.”
