No more sitting at home all day! Have some fun this break doing these activities.

Downtown Libertyville

No Money? No Problem (all cost nothing!)

Stroll around Downtown Libertyville

There are lots of different kinds of stores in downtown Libertyville; most of them are unique businesses, not chain stores. They are definitely worth a look and can give you great Christmas gift ideas. Some stores to check out include What She Wants Boutique (clothing), B. Bungalow (clothing, home, and gifts),The Serendipity Shop (clothing), Bentley’s Pet Stuff (treat your pet!), and Lovin’ Oven Cakery (yum!).

Park District Ice Skating and Sledding

At Century Park in Vernon Hills, a skating rink and sled hill are open every day from  7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. There are also warming shelters available from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Get ready for a long hike though, because the hill super steep!

Walk through local seminary

Located right across the street from Carmel is the University of Saint Mary of the Lake  seminary. The views are incredible and it’s a great place to take photos. The peninsulas reaching onto the lake have a spectacular view, and the domes that cover them can be beautiful scenery. Also, you can take a yoga class or simply just sit near the water on a few small platforms. We do not recommend taking a dip in the water, though, because it is winter.

Travel (as far as Metra will take you)

See the Macy’s Holiday Window Exhibits

Everyone loves a bit of Christmas Spirit! Spend some time with your family downtown and visit these extraordinarily decorated displays. This activity is free, but if you want to buy items inside of Macy’s, make sure to bring some money.

Christmas Around the World

Take a trip downtown and visit the Museum of Science and Industry, where you can explore holiday traditions around the world. This exhibit is up through January 6th.

Millennium Park

Every Chicagoan has visited Millennium Park, but it is best experienced around the holidays. The Bean’s ice skating rink and the enormous tree are tourists’ favorites, but it is also fun to check out the Maggie Daley Skating Ribbon.
