As part of an initiative to make Carmel students better citizens, Government and Civics teacher Sharon Smogor is hosting a collection to donate much-needed items to our men and women in the armed forces.

All items donated will go to the Arlington office of the Veteran Foreign Wars post, where Smogor’s husband, Mike, is the Assisting Service Officer.

“The VFW post really appreciates any contributions,” Smogor said.

Since the drive started last Monday, the bin in room 301 has begun to overflow. Items will be collected until Friday morning, and then the items will be packed and sent to the VFW post to be passed on to military personnel.

“We’re trying to make students more responsible citizens with collections like this,” Smogor said.
