While the entire Cadence show choir competed over the weekend at the Naperville North “Clash of the Sequins” show choir competition, one singer belted it out better than all the rest.

Senior Emily Tyndorf participated with five other Carmel singers in the solo portion of the competition. With a score of 94 out of 100, she took the title for best female soloist over 69 other performers singing “Bright” by Echosmith.

“It makes me feel happy and confident.” Tyndorf said. “I wanted to perform something that showed my love for singing.”

Not only did Emily win best female soloist, but she also won 2nd runner up for star performer in the show choir competition. Junior Ethan Lagman received 1st runner up and senior Ariana Afonso won the award.

Although Cadence did not qualify for the finals, as a group, they felt like they sang and danced their way to one of the best performance they have had in awhile. Now they’re just waiting for the scores to reflect that at their next competition.

“The first show of the season is always hard, but I can tell that this is going to be the best year we’ve had because of our strong performance,” Senior Olivia Atkins said. “Even though there’s an underlying disappointment that we didn’t place, it’s overshadowed by the happiness we feel after accomplishing one of our best performances.”

Meanwhile, Tyndorf remains super jazzed with her win, even though it was not something that she had anticipated.

“It felt amazing to be able to do what I love in front of all the people who appreciate fine arts too,” Tyndorf said. “It’s definitely a day I’ll never forget.”
