A group of 13 seniors and three Carmel faculty members climbed on a bus this afternoon headed to Washington D.C. for the 43rd annual March for Life.

“This is something I actually care about so I’m really excited to have this opportunity,” senior Maeve O’Malley said.

The group will arrive in D.C. tomorrow morning to get settled. Before the actual march begins on Friday afternoon, the group will also participate in a Mass at the Verizon Center.

“I’m feeling really good about the trip,” senior Patrick Teehan said. “After my sister got home from her trip two years ago, I decided I wanted to go and was really excited about it.”

In solidarity with Carmel’s marchers, the Social Justice Club is hosting a 24-hour prayer vigil in the Brandsma Chapel starting at 3:00 p.m.

They will pray a rosary every hour on the hour for a full 24 hours. All students are welcome to attend, but, only juniors and seniors can go between the hours of midnight and 5am Thursday morning.

Also on the D.C. weekend agenda, the Carmel group will also visit St. Joseph Seminarians, see St. John Paul II’s National Shrine, and attend Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception before they head back to Carmel.

“I’m super excited about this experience, and I also think participating in a national march will be pretty cool,” senior Colleen Dragines explained. “I’m expecting to meet a lot of interesting people who are there for different reasons but have the same ultimate goal that I do.”
