Carmel jazz groups to compete

Jazz Combo and Jazz Band plan to show off hard work

If you’re “In The Mood” to hear some jazz from our finest musicians at Carmel, head to Glenbrook South High School this Saturday to catch their 40th Annual North Shore Jazz Festival.

Jazz combo and Jazz band with both be competing on Saturday. The festival starts at 7:15 AM, but Carmel’s first performance will begin at 3 PM.

Jazz combo will be playing the songs “Sandu,” “This I Dig of You,” and “Little Sunflower,” while Jazz Band will be play “Cute,” “Moten Swing,” and “Manteca.”

The bands have been preparing their pieces since the end of November during early morning practices. The two groups alternate 6:30 a.m. practices that last for an hour and fifteen minutes each.

Senior Max Senger, who plays the vibes, is super excited about the competition.

“I’m feeling very confident,” Senger said. “And I think we will play very well and score very high.”

The tickets for the event will be $10 per person.

“It will be great music and a lot of fun,” senior drummer Michael Jones said.
