Staying in step with the latest fashions

No need to call the fashion police–Carmel’s first fashion show fundraiser was a complete success. An afternoon of looking at the latest styles helped to pay for the newest Carmel clothes.

After months of fundraising, the event put the marching band fund over its $50,000 goal, which means that there’s now enough money to purchase new uniforms.

Parents, teachers and students came out to White Deer Run Golf Club to support the arts and brought in about $9,500. Because of the great turnout, the Carmel Catholic Council for the Arts plans to make the fashion show an annual event.

The afternoon included lunch and dessert provided by the club, along with a raffle and a silent auction, before the students and teachers rocked the runway.

Some of the major prizes included a trip to the JW Marriott Chicago, a Patrick Kane jersey, and assorted gift baskets. The most coveted prize was four prime tickets to this year’s graduation ceremony.

Prom looks sparkled, but students, teachers and board members also spotlighted some less formal looks.

“The boots that I got to wear were the best part for me!” coordinator Noelle Moore said.

It wouldn’t be a true fashion event without a few surprise models and the Carmel Catholic Council for the Arts did not disappoint. The young daughters of Carmel’s new President Dr. Brad Bonham and marching band director David Wieber, Sarah Bonham and Shannon Wiebers, strutted in First Communion dresses.

The biggest reveal, though, came at the end of the show with a peek at the new marching band uniforms. Wiebers detailed the evolution of the marching band looks, from a jumpsuit when he first started 19 years ago, to the uniforms that will premiere in the fall. He said that he was overwhelmed by the support from the Carmel crowd.

It makes you feel proud to be a part of such a loving and giving community,” Wiebers said. “The band students and I can not find enough words of thanks to all those who support this fine event.”
