“The anticipation is the best part, like my heart was racing the whole time,” senior Dom Zawartko said.

As part of the “Silent Night” theme, Carmel students were completely silent until the tenth point was scored. Once Carmel hit their eighth point, the entire Student Section flinched at every next shot. Eagerly awaiting to erupt in cheers after sitting in silence for what felt like a year.

CJ Duff finally earned the coveted tenth point.

“When CJ made the bucket to put us at 10, the gym lit up,” senior Matt Stephens said. “It got all of us players psyched, and the feeling was actually thrilling and energizing.”

After their 29-28 lead in the first half, Carmel struggled to keep their control in the second half.

“We weren’t executing our game plan,” Stephens said. “We just couldn’t find our groove.”

Carmel fell to St. Viator 58-49, but the team is looking toward the future.
“We’re prepping for Joliet Catholic and our Christmas tournament,” Stephens said. “We hope to go far this year, especially in the post-season.”
