Before the world converges this summer in Rio for the Olympic Games, Carmel’s upperclassmen, dressed in tuxes and gowns will dance the night away in their own Olympic-themed prom.

Carmel’s prom committee, led by the junior board, spends months planning the event, trying to come up with a theme that is both original and interesting to all students. With the Olympic Games in Rio this summer, the theme fits well.

Things I consider are not to do the norm, like the ideas from the magazines that come from the prom companies,” Lindgren said. “We need to make sure it’s not too girly so the boys will enjoy it too.”

The committee wanted to feature the event because it brings people together from all over the world in a peaceful and encouraging forum.

“We wanted to highlight the good instead of all the bad going on in the world,” junior prom committee member Erin Kehoe said.

After the theme decision was made, the work was just getting started for the committee. The group of ten juniors also decide on invitation and t-shirt designs, decorations, music, food, and seating assignments.
